I was really looking foward for KSEA & KPDX. So that really sucks.

Finding your comment a bit hard, but i understand you should be disappointed...

Whatever, the fact is that this area is hard to fly, even if you reduce the details : thoses two airports are big, ready for big planes so big IFR travels. The ORBX's "way of development", as JV said, is to offer a best experiment about VFR low speed flying... How can we have a look at the marvellous details the developpers add if we are flying at 250 knots ?

I wasn't waiting for KSEA as i wasn't aware of this product to be in Orbx's projects...

KPDX... I was waiting for, but, as the freetown scenery (wonderfull work !) and the area is well detailled and, so, heavy for my low specs computer, even if i upgrade it one day, not sure i would buy it if it makes me too laging...

I respect the ORBX's plan, and as the pictures shows, the quality is there to please our eyes again.

Please Chris101, just think about what you're really looking for when you're on your simulator...

And even if ORBX don't create thoses airports, others that are now working about comptability between their products and orbx's regions will certainly do thoses airports you are waiting for, you could be sure of it ;)

Congrats Orbx Team ! The pictures are wonderfull !

We have four airfields planned for PFJ and one for NRM at this stage. You need to understand that getting imagery for Canada is almost impossible. If it exists at all, it's horrendously expensive. I could tell you what we've spent on the PAKT Kethikan imagery alone, but you would die from the shock.

Please understand, we're not a large company and we're doing the best we can given our staff and resources. We fully intend to populate our new regions with airports but if you follow our history you'll find there is a lag behind releases of regions to the release of airports.

I was going to ask why there was a lack of Canadian add on airports - now I know!!!

Indeed.....and maybe the 1000 Islands region. Kingston, ON (CYGK) would be a great addon airport. Nice size and right in the middle of the area. Plus my hometown so would be great!

I'd think all my Christmases had come at once if there was a whiff of an Orbx CYVR.

Perfect for PNW, stuck out in the water rather than being in the middle of a poly-heavy downtown core, pretty backdrop, sure it'd be a good seller.

In the meantime, nice roadmap, cheers for the update!

Well whether we like it or not, it's good to know how we stand.

Since the facts you point out about the large airports and your decision not to compromise on them in anyway, then the conclusion you have reached is without dought the right one.

Very much look forward to what you do best, small and beautifully formed.

Thank you from a customers point of view for the heads up and the fact that you will do the 2.5 for YMML.

I do support your choice of focussing on GA, I also think it is good you densify your PNW coverage, which make this sim region one of the best around. Etienne

I must admit, the products from the previous '2011' thread that I was most looking forward to were KPDX, PAKT and S43. As can be seen from those three, I do prefer a variety of aviation experiences. It's hard for me to justify buying an endless stream of one kind of limited aiport. I did not see S43 (the closest GA airport to my next home) mentioned in this new roadmap, so I'm apparently now down to one of three. I hope Vancouver V3 remains on track and then I will at least have that as a PNW hub for that kind of flying. Possibly also there is partial sense of jealousy of the wider variety of Australian airports. :) Regardless, Tongass, PFJ and PNW will always make up the "known world" for my GA flying, with the wider North Pacific basin being my overall playground.

I'd just like to add that despite the "no larger airports" stance (which I feel is well justified), let be honest and admit that even the default airports after Orbx had finished with them are nothing short of awesome... The "default" Orbx Seatac as it stands after the PNW patch is a million miles away from the FSX default... And the new third runway is even there.

Might not have all the people or photo real elements, but it's still a joy to fly into and out of even as it stands now! And next to no FPS hit...
Cheers,
Rob

JV,

Thanks for sharing this update. While disappointed with the Cancellation of KPDX, I completely understand your reasoning. The Orbx treatment given to airports within the regions and upcoming regions such as NCA and Portland city help soften the blow.

Now that international and larger regional airports are off the radar screen, I would like to see airports that can handle something larger than piston singles, twins and light turboprops. There is a void of regional airports in the 4000-7000 ft runway class with instrument approach procedures. These types of airports should fit your development needs, be friendly for the low/slow crowd, and give users of turboprops and bizjets as well as those looking for some IAP's to also have a playground.

I love your regions but have only picked up one of your fantastic airports (KORS) as the remainder are too small or lack airway/nav facilities. I see the PMDG J4100 in Orbx videos but there are hardly any Orbx airports for NA suited to this class of airplane. Looking forward to Ketchikan, Skagitt and more in this class.

JV,

I really like this roadmap and the plans you've laid out. I love the smaller regional airports and bush strips. I think they are the best fit for Orbx scenery. I am excited for all that you said is coming our way.

Thanks for the update!

Hi Orbx

This is a somewhat disappointing update, I was really looking forward to some bigger airports in the NA region from u guys. I do understand your decision to move (or stay) in this direction. I will continue to buy your products because u r one of the best at what u do. Really looking forward to what the East Coast scenery will entail and if u have any more info to share on this front would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Fwiw, I'm entirely happy with the prospect of no more "mega" airports, since I rarely go near them for any reason other than if a rally takes me there. Conversely, the prospect of more "$100-Hamburger" airports creates a "stirring in my loins". :P That's where I do 99% of my flying.

Many thanks for the update, John.

Hi ORBX,

I can also understand the reason for not wanting to have so much time committed to producing the larger airports. Since this company started with an Australian Scenery package, and then started to produce the large airports for Australia, it was fair to assume that the capital city airports were going to follow. I certainly enjoy the scenery that I have purchased so far and will continue to add to my collection. My personal opinion for what it is worth, is that the cutoff point could have been on the completion of all capital city Airports, giving people like myself a sense of country complete when flying in larger aircraft simulators that travel between these cities.

Kind Regards

Bernie.

I'm really happy with this roadmap, especially with a great wave of Aussie projects. To be honest, I wasn't looking for YSSY - I just don't see how OrbX could apply its standard for amazing details to such a big airport in such a dense area, it sounds like it could only bring the best rig to its knees. I'm happy if we see some little touches of freeware improvements here and there on the airport sometime in the future. The fact that OrbX chose to do Alice Springs and other fields instead sounds perfect to me :)
