Love that trees movement!
Wind intensity its going to be noticed?
I mean in the video seems to be a breeze moving trees and grass......but under heavy winds are the movemnets going to be more noticeable?
Just asking because it gets me really curious!

There is no affect on the animations by wind conditions at all. There is a limit to what we can do (or want to do) in FSX, and dynamic response of animated vegetation based on wind conditions is still very much a pipe dream (in fact you'd be lucky to get features that in COD, Crysis2 or Skyrim). Maybe one day with MS Flight we may be able to do that, but not right now ;)

There is an FPS hit, no doubt about it, we won't BS about that. But we have a control panel so you can disable grass/trees or both, and still have static grass. From my initial testing I would say there's a 5-7FPS hit, so this may be something that only high-end PCs can run.

The modeling is almost done and this is what I get with full grass/trees/leaves animations:

Aircraft: Carenado Cessna T210M Centurion HD
Scenery/Autogen density = Very Dense
Everything else pretty much maxxed, including video card at 32xAA and 16xAF

Facing N = 34-42 FPS
Facing W = 17-24 FPS
Facing E = 27-39 FPS
Facing S = 19-32 FPS

Smoothest approach is from the East toward the West, easily 35's and like butter. W facing Seattle I get hit because the city buildings are being rendered, even over the horizon. Sometimes the FSX engine is just too clever for its own good :)

IMHO the performance right now is fantastic even with all animated veg on. Remember, you will be able to disable all the animated stuff, so I would not worry too much at this stage. With the HD Carenado using 2048 textures, and my GTX580 nVidia settings maxxed out, for me it was perfect.

(March 24-2008 post)--

"In the real world of constant stress and pressure - kudos go to the special people- the ones who press on going the extra miles to achieve that next higher level of excellence - benefitting so many with limited means and opportunity, by creating a unique and truly fun way to simply "get away from it all and unwind a bit"... How many other ways 'cept in the world of sim can one truly have his cake and eat it too? Can anyone deny it's time to bring in the animation specialists ??!
I must admit until the FTX thing I couldn't muster much of that kind of enthusiasm for what industry continues to call a "game". At least for me that description's fading fast in light of this new art form- developing now on a scale much grander than one could have imagined some years back- after all, aren't we coming close to Eden here-- and can someone hear someone say.... let there be life!"

Hang in there Orbx---Russ- keep it coming! ;)
