You only need to click the 'Day' button once, and unless you reinstall an FTX region it will stay as is until you change it

I run the external frame rate limiter locked @ 30 fps. I presume I should increase this? Problem is, I can't remember how!

Can anyone help please??

HUGE improvement around KSEA, from 15/18 with stutters to 30fps perfectly smooth with an external limiter. Also not a huge loss of realism for me since I still have UTX lights on. Very nice! :)

I don't think you need to increase it. 30FPS is very fast and smooth. You won't be able to tell the difference between that and 40 or 50. And keeping it at 30 will leave headroom for other processes.

I got very little to no gain around KSEA depending which direction I'm facing. Normally its 12/15 fps and now its 13/17 fps. I think my biggest hold up is my graphic card.

For those who see no difference, could you please check if the poles are really gone ? If this doesn't increase FPS noticeable you might have a serious bottleneck (either hardware, drivers, bandwidth or FSX settings other than autogen).

Like i mentioned, for the first time ever i am able to run unlimited FPS (no limiter). The FPS variation hovers around 5% average which is very low and very smooth. Even when the variation goes up at more detailed areas, the FPS are so high that i barley notice any stutters. It's a new experience indeed - TrackIR is very responsive and landing an aircraft with 40 FPS instead of 20 is something else...
I should add that i use the latest nVidia beta drivers. Not sure if those make a difference as well.

Btw, P3D is running incredible with this feature 8)
Cheers
Heiko

Well, I checked and the poles are really gone. Kind of depressing without the night lighting. Anyhow I retested with the default cessna. 15.8-19 with night lighting and 16-20.9 without in KSEA. About a frame and a half. A difference but not much of one. Again, I suspect I need a new graphics card.

People's mileage is going to vary with this.

For example, I hardly see any difference at all, but I have the same hardware as Tim, except he's got a GTX480 and I have a GTX580. Other than that, same OS, CPU, clock speed etc. His frames double, but I get about another 2-3.

Heiko and Patrick get a massive boost, but other Orbx team members get little to none.

So it's not the magic cure for everyone, but definitely substantially beneficial to many :)
Regards,
JV

Ok tried this out at YSSY, autogen at 'normal'. I did not put my FPS slider at unlimited sice it causes extreme blurring. During the middle of the day, no clouds, with the FTX 'night' mode, I'm getting 14-20fps. I then put the daytime mode on, and in most areas it could stay consistently between 20-30fps, with some exceptions, but with those exceptions it would only drop down to as little as 17fps! Of course if I put the slider to unlimited the FPS difference would be greater, but I don't want to sacrifice visual quality for FPS :). In the rural areas though, I already had awesome performance at 'dense' (locked at a consistent 30fps!) This won't make much of a difference there though.
Thanks a lot for this!

Awesome indeed!

Everything maxed out, apart from water being highx2

Flight over Vancouver with real weather updates. Frames locked at 25fps and there they stayed throughout!.... Track IR more responsive and hardly any stuttering... wow!!

You guys are awesome, thanks :)
Many thanks and Happy Simming

I get an FPS improvement of approx. 20 – 30 % over Saettle with my old system. However I definitely get a lot more blurries now. Not only blurries, also autogen and mesh have problems to catch up. Last night the only way to get rid of the blurries was to hit the scenery refresh button. (Circling on the spot for minutes did not help, not even to pause the sim for 5 minutes.)

It seems to be the same issue which BiggerBoat describes in his post on page 1 of this thread.

Anyway many thanks orbx for your constant efforts to improve the flightsim experience and to provide such utilities for free.

I’ll do some more testing tonight

Cheers, Wolfgang

Wolfgang, what kind of tweaks are you using ? FPS locked or unlimited ? With or without limiter ?

Hello Heiko,

Now that’s what I call a quick response!! :)

I have set the internal limiter set to 25.

Tweaks
Autogen trees at 800 per cell , autogen buildings 600 per cell (or the other way round, I’ll check once at home tonight). In the sim I have set autogen to very dense.

Fiber Frame fraction at 63. I use this rather high setting, because in the past I had the impression that it really prevented from blurries.

Cheers, Wolfgang

Well done Tim.

An impressive boost to framerates here.

Tested at YSSY with autogen at dense. Framerates went from 56 to 80. A 40% improvement.

I notice this is modifying the miscellenous_lib_orbx.bgl. Is it just replacing the lightpoles with FX models with lightpoles without FX models or are the lightpoles with FX being completely removed?
Ant,
What are the specs of your system (I'm surprised to see someone getting those framerates in Sydney) if possible?
P.S: Those airports you develop are really nice! I recommend them to anybody who Is a FSX newbie.

Just saw that you use Dual Core, yeah that's tricky sometimes. Just as a test - could you slash out (with //) the per cell tweak and the fiber tweak and check if the agn and terrain returns to normal ? You might need set agn to dense though.

So far I didn't have any improvement in fps, but with the ext limiter everything went as smooth as never before. I'll keep on testing.
