I am pleased to announce that Orbx will be releasing a worldwide vector product to compliment FTX Global and openLC. Wer'e calling it (logically) FTX Global VECTOR. Here is the logo and tagline:
As you can read in the attached press release, FTXG VECTOR is a partnership between Orbx and PILOT'S and adds another layer to the complete transformation of your simulator to a whole new world. The key features of FTXG VECTOR are:
- Power Lines
- Moving traffic
- Corrected airport elevations (optional install)
Future enhancements in the form of free patches may include ports, docks, graveyards, golf courses, forests and ocean beaches.
When: We envisage releasing FTXG VECTOR at the end of October
How much: This single installer upgrading the entire planet with OSM and multiple sourced vector will be only AU$69.95 (€49 / £41 / USD65)!!
So this completes the three main layers of the FTX Global family:
What does it look like?
Obviously we will be sharing plenty of screenshots and videos over the coming six weeks but to give you an idea of the way in which it dramatically transforms the whole world, I picked two areas in Asia where the default vector data is particularly lacking, Malaysia and Singapore:
The FTX Global Iceland demo is due for release at the end of this month.
If you have any questions please ask here and I will do my best to answer them over the coming week.
Yours in announcements!
Oh .. and one last thing .. The Iceland demo includes a Photoreal CityScape Reykjavík, including the business district and docks (as you can see in some of the above shots) - completely integrated into the demo and fully hand-annotated.
NEW: QUICK FAQ
Q: Will it work with UTX? A: No it does the same thing, but of course you can disable Vector in the FSX Scenery Library if you want to use UTX for example while flying in the USA. We suggest though that you first install Vector to see what job we've done over the USA and Europe before needing to do that.
Q: Do I need to purchase 3rd party mesh? A: No, at install time you can decide if you want to use the corrected airport elevations or not. If you don't install them you can use the default FSX/P3D mesh. If at some later point you purchase FSGlobal or FSGenesis mesh, simply re-run the installer.
Q: Will there be a discount for FTXG customers? A: No, because we've already discounted Vector by 30% by releasing it at AU$69.95 instead of the planned AU$100.
Q: Can I use Vector without FTX Global? A: Yes you can, we will bundle any custom textures from FTXG with Vector so you can use it with default or other texture products. Obviously for the best results as we intended we recommend FTX Global.
Q: Will the Iceland Demo come with an uninstaller? A: Yes it will.
Q: How do I uninstall UTX? A: Ask the support forums at Flight1, UTX is not an Orbx product and we will not give support advice as to the best way to uninstall it.
Q: PILOT'S have announced FS Global Vector - is that the same product? A: Yes it is, but they can only sell on DVD with their own branding and logos, and Orbx can only sell online with both Orbx and PILOT'S branding. That is the deal we have struck. The two products are essentially the same.
Q: Can I customize Vector using a front-end app or tool? A: No you can't. We are keeping it simple and easy to install and use. There are no residential roads and the 3D lights don't cause any FPS hit, so we believe it's best to not allow customers to customize the product because there is no need to do so. The only option you have is to not install the airport elevations at install time, but that's it.
Q: How big in size is Vector? A: Around 5GB, but we cannot confirm this until the end of beta testing.
Q: How big in size is the Iceland Demo? A: Around 1GB or less, although this may change before release.
Q: Will the Iceland Demo work with Aerosoft Iceland X? A: No, it does the same thing (a landclass texture and vector based scenery addon), so you will need to disable the AS Iceland X addon in your scenery library if you have it installed. If they have their airport upgrades in a separate scenery library entry perhaps you can keep them active if they match the airport elevation corrections we have made.
Q: Will Vector and Iceland Demo work in P3D 1.x and 2.0? A: Yes they will work in 1.x and we are 95% sure they will work in V2.0 although that is yet to be tested and confirmed since we don't have the P3D 2.0 beta code yet.
Q: Will Orbx sell a global mesh product one day? A: No, we have no plans to, that's why we've partnered with the guys from PILOT'S.
Q: How is performance like for Vector? A: Find out for yourself very soon, when the Iceland Demo is released.
Q: Will Vector work without openLC? A: Yes of course but you won't want to. The Iceland Demo is going to convince you of the quality of openLC combined with Vector, we are sure of that However please keep in mind that Vector is made for openLC and FTX Global, so there will be specific texture calls dependant on those two products. We are releasing a trilogy of products that are designed to work together rather than with other products. Please keep that in mind.
Q: Does Vector + openLC + FTX Global replace the Orbx regions? A:No FTXG Vector does NOT replace or feature more details than our FTX Regions. The biggest differences are a. custom textures native to the region, b. hand-crafted landclass, c. Updated default airports, and d. Photoreal imagery for significant wilderness areas. Much more discussion on that here: http://www.orbxsyste...gions-obsolete/
Q: Will updates and patches be free? A: Yes - we are Orbx, they are always free
